The Leader: NOLS’ Alumni Magazine
The Leader, NOLS’ largest publication, is mailed twice a year to nearly 50,000 recipients. With features on locations and courses, alumni profiles, and inspiring stories, it has become a beloved and iconic publication. I spearheaded a redesign in 2019, preserving all the cherished content while giving the magazine a fresh, modern look to reflect the evolving organization.
Course catalog
Alumni Trips Catalog
NOLS’ alumni programs are among their most popular offerings, with courses held in over 18 countries worldwide. This catalog showcases all courses available throughout the year, providing detailed descriptions, dates, costs, and difficulty ratings to help prospective students make informed decisions. Stunning photography and map graphics complement the content, with courses organized by continent for easy navigation. At over 60 pages, this publication has undergone two redesigns and transitioned from print to digital over the five years I’ve been involved in its design.

Wayfinding Signage
With NOLS' sprawling campus and numerous buildings, navigating the space wasn’t always straightforward. There was a clear need for effective wayfinding signage to help people find their way more easily. We started by gathering all the necessary content and mapping out exactly what information was needed in each location. Measurements were taken, and mockups were created to determine the ideal sizing and placement for each sign. Collaborating with local businesses for powder coating, steel cutting, and crane services added a layer of complexity to the project. After months of planning, revisions, and materials testing, this signage project has become one of my all-time favorites. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see it come to life and improve the overall experience for visitors and staff alike.

Friends Newsletter
The NOLS Friends Newsletter is a biannual publication aimed at educating donors on how to include NOLS in their wills, along with featuring shorter stories about the school and its recent activities. Published each spring and fall, the main feature story stays relatively consistent, while the rest of the content requires careful space planning. With a limited number of pages, the design process revolves around optimizing the layout to balance the flow of text, imagery, and smaller updates, ensuring every inch is utilized effectively.
